As part of their series in "Save Energy Now" case studies , the DOE recently released a case study outlining the impact of Modius DCiM on the energy and cost savings achieved at the Sybase data center facilities in Dublin, California. With the help of the Modius Data Center Infrastructure Manager (DCiM™) platform, Sybase realized:
* Cost Savings of $262,000/year
* Energy Savings 2,295,000 kW/year
* Received over $1 Million in Utility Rebates by reducing their Energy Consumption
* Prevented at least 3 major Outages
The DOE case study explains, "The DCiM™ system provides accurate, comprehensive, real-time monitoring data for the data center, including all generators, switch gear, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), power distribution units (PDU), computer room air handler (CRAH) units, and wireless sensors. The data is used to discover IT and facilities inefficiencies, quantify savings opportunities, justify budgets, and measure savings."
Case Study Overview
The following is an except from the case study:
The Sybase data center in Dublin, California, is a physically well-organized and energy-efficient environment. Implemented cooling plant and air management measures at Sybase allowed raising the chilled water temperature from 43°F to 52°F, which saved at least 15% of the chiller energy. The room temperature was also raised from 69°F to 74°F.
