Companies will provide a joint demonstration at Next Week’s Data Center World Expo in Nashville

AUSTIN, TEXAS and SAN FRANCISCO (March 2, 2010) – Modius Inc and RF Code, Inc, today announced the integration of RF Code’s wire-free environmental sensor-based monitoring solution into the Modius OpenData platform.  Available now, the integrated solution is the first initiative stemming from the partnership between the two companies.

Modius® is the leading provider of unified monitoring and measurement solutions that track both IT devices and facilities infrastructure equipment from a single pane-of-glass, delivering performance-based analysis of today’s converged IT infrastructure. The Modius flagship offering, OpenData®, is software that allows users to manage the performance of both IT devices and facilities infrastructure equipment across all enterprise business-critical sites, including data centers, call centers, server closets, and mechanical yards.

RF Code’s wire-free active sensor-based software solution monitors and alerts about a broad range of environmental factors—from changes in temperature and humidity to the sudden presence of dangerous conductive liquids.

Modius OpenData now accepts environmental data directly from RF Code sensors. The entire solution can be delivered at very low cost and covers data centers of any size. By integrating environmental data into the OpenData platform, customers now get a complete picture about the real-time status and performance of all their physical data center assets. This combined view includes both performance data collected by Modius directly from IT and facilities equipment, as well as environmental data collected by RF Code sensors. The combined information is then used to help operators run more efficient and cost-effective data centers.

"We’re delighted to have RF Code as a partner," said Craig Compiano, CEO of Modius "Their open approach to integration has made it easy to extend the value of our OpenData solution by adding critical environmental information that affects the performance and availability of our customers’ physical assets."

"Modius is an ideal partner for us," said Mitch Medford, CEO RF Code. "They understand that monitoring and managing costly center infrastructure is a key component of reducing operating and capital costs. Integrating environmental information nicely complements the information OpenData already provides. It’s a perfect fit."

Next week, the two companies will provide a joint demonstration at Data Center World in Nashville, TN. The demonstration will take place on March 10th at booth #240 at 1:00PM.

Although this seems as 'just another product announcement', there is also some kind of trend going on about joining sensors (facilities) with IT-kit. As mentioned here however, that combination is not everywhere as etched in management as at some places.

Especially here in Europe, there is a strict boundary. My question would be: will that fade with stuff like this penetrating the market? I'm not so sure...
The new servers are supporting server inlet and exhausted temp. Typically, you would have needed a cabinet sensor to get this data. The new iPDU’s are also getting temp. Most companies do not want to deploy another monitoring point if they can get it with existing equipment.
