Poll: Should recruitment consultants be allowed to join this network?

Hi members,

We need your input!

Our data center community network continues to expand.  Inevitably with the network growing it attracts the attention of recruiters and headhunters.  The question is should they be allowed to join the network?

Personally I think it would be better not to allow recruitment consultants to join the network!  Instead I think it would be better if the HR depts of our companies would post their jobs directly to the network jobs board.

But its your decision - so what do you think?

Take the poll and let us know....

Also would be great if you could let your HR departments/recruiting managers know about our networks job board - its free to post jobs and we can send out regular job newsletters to the community to help fill those open positions.

Thanks,

The Data Center Professionals Network

I voted NO becuase recruiters tend to blindly canvas IT Professionals regardless of the type of job. If they paid close attention to discussions to find someone that seemed to have the right skillset then I would not mind so much. As it is now, recruiters are a source of a lot of spam and telecom noise.
I think it may be beneficial for the forum to be more specific about what you mean by "recruitment consultants." Are you referring to 3rd party agencies or head hunters? Our organization has a number of corporate recruiters (responsible for posting jobs and sourcing and screening candidates for hiring managers) but are titled Talent Acquisition Consultants. We work directly for the organization and utilize such networks to locate top talent.

Banning corporate recruiters from joining your network could potentially limit job opportunities for your members.
Good point Jessica.

We are indeed referring to 3rd party agencies and head hunters, and not HR depts/corporate recruiters who work directly for data center industry companies. We want to encourage HR depts/corporate recruiters to join the network and make use of the jobs board - we're sure the members are always interested in great job opportunities :-)
definitely NO, but YES for posting their jobs to the network jobs board !
I vote YES because not only am I the CEO of my small company, but I'm also the recruiter. My IT professional services and staffing company specializes in data centers. Allowing me to be a member of The DC Professionals Network enables me to continue to learn about data centers and topics of timely interest to data center professionals. I have not abused the membership privilege by marketing or attempting to recruit through this medium. I take this knowledge, in turn, and use it to better my data center managers and other clients. Ultimately, allowing IT recruiters access to this group enables recruiters to provide a better service to DCs and DC managers when needed.
I vote a qualified yes. There are many companies that utilize non-FTE for recruiting internal positions. With email addresses that may not accurately reflect the client company. While an HR manager may post a job to a company web site, they will often rely on the contracted recruitment firms to cast a wider net. Limiting access for the recruitment firms to the jobs board provides that visibility while perhaps limiting the spam... Having been on the hunt recently, I have received the calls from recruiters that clearly did NOT read my resume, and contacted me based on a job title... However, not seeing an opportunity is less appealing than having to delete a few spam messages. My two cents worth.
I go with Freddy's answer.
no
