Ahh the cabling in the top of rack and patch panel of 1RU high density and 1 RU cable manager, in the cross connect i use angular patch panel 2 RU.

Micah, Good morning,

Here in the datacenter we design a infraestructure with 1200 horizontal UTP and 576 fiber SAN with the cross connect in 2 - 42 RU one of fiber and other UTP, front and back to acomodate horizontal UTP because the space was the problem here, underfloor we put 6 ZDA to delivery in the EDA to the Blades IBM Power, DMX EMC, Library, the infraestructure its very funcional and the downtime its zero this project have 1 year, today im design a infraestructure to 120 - 44 RU and Cross connect in 18 - 58 RU Knurr, 2 patch cords (server>x-connect>swich) for me its a very good layout because i have the under floor very clean and i reduce the cost of OPEX in the future, good chat!

Long story short - this data center is now in production - we went with the following design:

* All Ethernet cabling is "1 patch cable away" from set of bay switches.
* Unless the vlan is supporting iscsi SAN data. Then the connectivity is patched (3 patchcables) to the "storage bay" that has centralized switches and SAN storage modules.
* The centralized cross-connect was therefore reduced in size to 2 42RU frames with about 600 horizontal patchpanel interfaces.
* Any other carrier style circuit (originating from meet-me-room, cable vault, etc) that needs to terminate in our bays would be cross-connected through this frame.
* Great effort was taken to minimize the number of patches to reduce failure points, human error, and length of channel...

Thanks for your response....

3 Patch cords it´s the bether solution in your opinion? (switch, X-connect and server), because for me it´s a very good solution for data center, you agree?

Any suggestions in building a "centralized CAT6A" switching cross-connect frame for a 5000 sq. ft data center? This is to replace "top of rack" or "end of bay" style topologies...
