What amount or level of physical security is enough for a data center?

Of course, this is a purposefully asked broad question, and realize that the answer will be different depending on the size, location, services, and clientel of the data center. However, this seemed to me the perfect starting discussion for the Physical Security group. I have my own thoughts based on my own personal experiences and from what I have read or learned concerning other companies, so I will be chiming in, but I wanted to see what everyone else has to say first.

At the moment there seems too much emphasis on electrical locks and devices (although convenient). Big old lumps of metal as padlocks are still the most effective methods as the sledgehammer has not gone away but merely used alongside newer tools such as cordless grinders. Back to basics is best I'm afraid.
