Thank you for the welcome message, I'm working for David Cuthbertson at Square Mile Systems and he pointed me in this direction as a good place to network and find interesting topics re data centre management issues.
To briefly answer your question about fit4green: the plug-in is meant to be a set of software components that is attached to the existing monitoring and controlling systems on the data centre and through them generates and keeps up-to-date the DC model monitoring the DC's status energy-wise and based on this model selects and enforces policies that reduce the energy consumption (for example moving around VMs, turning off servers)

One big difference of telco operators' central offices from typical data centers is that their locations are more constrained. For example, central offices that are responsible for local loops, or last one mile, must be placed within a certain distance from subscribers' buildings or homes if they are to provide broadband access services. So consolidation is not necessarily cost-effective and is not so easily done in our cases.
However, consolidation has always been a keyword for most of telco operators. And I think we now can benefit from its concept in a different way. Consolidation of servers, not buildings, will become more common in central offices, because servers play even more important roles in this Internet era. In this sense, I think central offices are in the same trend as data centers.
As you may know SAS 70 is transitioning to SSAE 16, the New Standards will require changes to data centers reporting processes and reports. SSAE 16 requires a “written assertion by management” along with an in-depth description of the service organization’s “system”. The written assertion / statement was never required by SAS 70 and the description of the service organization’s system now requires management to place a greater emphasis on describing and documenting this system for the service auditor for purposes of SSAE 16 reporting. I can recommend the best and most cost effective CPA firms that specialize in data center SAS70 / SSAE 16 Audits.

Hi there! Thank you. I look forward to some interesting reading and writing! I must say, I thought your Alexa score would be a little higher for such a well populated and active site. How many members are there to date?
Thanks for the note. That pic is from our new data center in Detroit. Our company is relocating there in a few weeks. We completley cabled, powered and racked and stacked a 4000 sq foot room in 2 months.

I manage a 5000 sq ft data center. I also design all the smaller data centers, server rooms and IDF closets for all of our regional offices around the world.
I come from the video surveillance industry. I think our networked video surveillance will be a great product for the data center since the administrator can log in and view the data center from anywhere anytime and get also alerts of people going in and other alerts.
Do you think this feature will add value to your data center industry?
