Disaster Recovery Plan: Brings You Back In Power

In the information age, most of the IT executives have realized that keeping a back-up plan to recover from the disasters occurrence is no more an option, it is a necessity rather. It cannot be denied that disasters do happen and can occur in several ways. It is a possible scenario that your critical IT systems could be unavailable due to flooding, fire, hardware failure, theft or any other unexpected event. And, sensibility calls for staying prepared well-in-advance instead of being in repentance later. This preparation implies towards an effective disaster recovery plan that can help you get business systems running again and up quickly.

Size of the company is not a determinant for having a DR plan. Let’s understand this with an example, if you will be having new virus attacks or network security threats regularly, you won’t get a recovery plan because yours is a small-size enterprise? The answer will be a No, right? It is quite obvious that value of data for you is equally important like that of a large-size enterprise owner. So, ignoring this critical step is simply not an option. In-fact, you should look for the best disaster recovery solution in order to regain your market place within a very minimal time period.

A DR plan allows you to work in a stress free environment, but it also involves some significant considerations.  First and most prominent of all, if you haven’t tested your back-up recently, you cannot be sure of your ability to overcome the impacts of disaster as you might not be having an exact idea of the time it will take to get your business systems in running state again. To be confident of your recovering ability, you should test your DR plan regularly. Not only plans, your system also needs to be tested whether its specification match with the back-up system.

Most of the recovery plan involves restoring the full system, including the original hardware configuration, creating back-up on a different hardware can be a complicated and time-consuming process. Hence, make sure that you have experienced all such issues in the testing phase so that you can deal with such hardware dependency problems within time. Alternatively, you should also review the software solutions offered by different providers as they of supreme importance in the process of recovering.

Another common problem that most of the companies experience while recovering their systems in actual disaster situation is that they have not tested the worst-case scenario. You should make a note to test both best-case and worst-case scenarios so to avoid any issues at the time of occurrence.

We all are aware that business systems evolve and change consistently, so you need to upgrade your disaster recovery plan on regular intervals to work freely with a focus on core resulting areas.
