I've been technically minded for years, walking the thin line between "geek" & "cool" - personally, I like geek, geek is cool.
Geeks will inherit the earth right??
I've worked in several different industries over the years, mostly in a sales capacity, and my personal style of "selling" is to consult and remove barriers to people buying. I hate being sold and am pretty sure I'm not alone.
As someone in the sales profession I am all too aware that we are not a popular bunch, ranking somewhere below the tax man and traffic wardens in terms of popularity. I'm trying to change that, one very cold call at a time.
The company I work for has the most unique environment I have ever encountered, its a fun place to work and as much as I could describe the environment here, it really has to be seen to be believed, its a great place to be and not many can say they enjoy coming to work each day.
I'm actually pretty selective in the people I do business with ( honestly, I am !! ) I like to connect to people and will shy away from transactional relationships, transactions don't bring any value. If you are open to dialogue and willing to discuss what technology will do FOR your company then I can help.
My current customers range in background, but all share a common problem, increased networking demands and decreasing financial and human resources.
The only part of your network I can't help in is your desktop PC, everything else is fair game.
Core, distribution and edge switching, servers, storage, telephony, data centre cabling and cable management.
I'll help in anyway I can, even if it means saying "I dont think I'm your best bet for this project".
After years in sales I've heard enough "no"s to not be afraid of it.

Hello, my name is Chuck, and I am also a workaholic (not by choice).
I am a former Data Center Manager and Systems Specialist who is still actively researching and working with the industry, specializing in ways to upgrade and provide increased uptime & reliability for facilities. With a large number of data centers built around the turn of the 21st century, these facilities are steadily increasing in age, going on 7 years or more. A good number of them, as impressive as they are, either incorporate inefficient or legacy systems, have infrastructure improperly matched (over/under-rated) to their equipment loads, or outright fail to provide proper ongoing maintenance for some or all of it. This creates a field wide open to engineers and data center managers who are specifically trained to deal with these issues.
I was formerly Data Center Operations Manager and Engineer for both NetRail Inc. (acquired by Cogent Communications) and Interland Inc. (acquired by Peer 1). At this time, I am working towards finishing up studies & testing in order to obtain certification with NICET (in fire systems) and associate certification in Network Critical Physical Infrastructure (NCPI) with Data Center University (APC/Schneider Electric).
I currently work as Operations Manager for GSD Services in Atlanta, overseeing the design, installation and maintenance of customized burglary, fire, access control, surveillance/CCTV, and infrastructure monitoring systems, as well as temporary oversight of Central Station operation & administration.

Clientel includes companies such as Galileo, CEIA, Piedmont Medical Group, Forsyth County Schools, B.H. Properties, Sheltering Arms day care centers, and the Ed Voyles family of car dealerships.
** Security Communications Services Inc. (SCS) is the company's Central Station, providing 24x7 monitoring of signals and video received from systems all over the Southeastern United States. SCS operates their main center in Atlanta GA and their secondary (redundant) centers in Woodstock GA and Omaha NE. Both UL compliant centers feature SurGard, Osborne-Hoffman, & AlarmNet receivers, 15M connectivity, multiple DID/DOD lines, UPS & generators for backup power, and digital 24-channel telephone voice recording.
My pet peeve with most facilities (especially smaller data centers that are internally owned) is that they have a habit of throwing physical and virtual security policies out the window. I kid you not. It can be very easy to breach corporate or facility security systems & protocols in many cases I have seen. I am currently working for Sabey Data Centers, the largest data center owner/operator in the Pacific NW with more than 1,500,000 square feet of data center space. We design, build and manage data centers for companies of all sizes. While we are currently located in Washington state, we are able to willing to build data centers anywhere. We have established a data center construction dream team that have a data center built in less than 12 months. We can offer a budget and have never gone over.
In my spare time I am getting my Masters Degree from the University of Washington. I have been in corporate communications/marketing for the last eight years, and until a few months ago, I also worked as the Coordinator of Technical Operations for Seattle Science Foundation, a local non-profit dedicated to educating medical professionals through the use of high-definition videography. I worked with Internet2, Pacific Northwest Giga Pop and several medical and education institutions across the country. I am now dedicating my time trying to find companies in need of more than 5,000 square feet of data center space. We do have the cheapest rates in the nation, at $0.02 per kilowatt hour!!

Hello All,
My name is Jay Brummett and I am a Data Center Program Manager for a Energy Efficiency Solutions company. Our company is contracted by different utilities nationwide to facilitate their Data Center Energy Efficiency Rebate or Incentive Programs. Basically if you have a Data center Project that will produce a reduction in its baselined energy consumption, the utilities give you money for it. Our firm is paid by the utilities to mange these programs for them and there is no cost to the customer. Currently we operate programs in Texas, California and New York. Hello all. My name is Michiel, and as you might have read, I am the new editor for this site. The guys behind all this contacted DatacenterWorks, a Dutch magazine that (as the title gives away) focuses entirely on DC technology and infrastructure. That's how I got involved.
I'll be posting blogs mostly, trying to find stuff that could be interesting for everyone here. Ofcourse, any suggestion is welcome! Also, feel free to correct me if I make a silly mistake ;-).
Looking forward to hearing from everyone here. I'll post my first blog not long from now.

Just got the Certified Data Center Design Cert.- going for the next round this year towards the CDCDP. Was told this cert. started out as a Euro offering and is just getting going in the US. Any other CDCD's on this site? My class was relatively small.

Im Sergio Rodrigo Larrazabal Velez Ocampo, from La Paz - Bolivia, I´m a electronics engineer and I have a master degree in IT Security.
I started working in a very different field, which is Industrial automation in a company who works with Allen Bradley, then I jumped to the telecommunications field, then to energy, and cooling systems, and finally to Data Center Design
The past three years I have been working in ICTEC S.R.L. which is a company specialized in Data Center design and implementation, we represent EMERSON NETWORK POWER in Bolivia and other brands too, such as SafeNet, Entrust, SDMO, Extreme Networks, etc.
I started as an engineer for the telecommunications division, then i was promoted to Engineering and Projects Manager, and then to Operations Manager.
I hope we can all share some experiencies, stories about Data Center in this network.

From Netherlands, France, Belgium, UK, USA, Kuwait, etc. I started my carreer from 1977. And have worked by multinational companies and government in the Netherlands
Because of all the expierence I have my specialized in Risk Mangement. So I started my own Consultancy business ; Meiberg Consultancy.
I help organisations to locate the risks and make a plan to come in control and reduce the downtime and costs. I use the Business Continuity Management profiel.
Also do design or redesign Datacenters and computerrooms, and office cabling.
Do many projects such as migrations, movements of datacenters, computerrooms.
It is there were my passion is!

Hello, I am Greg Schulz, found of the independent IT advisory and consultancy firm Server and StorageIO (StorageIO).
I have been in the industry for 30 years starting out as an operator and then programmer while going to school, moving into systems development, then systems management, architecture, disaster recovery planning, performance and capacity planning and strategy before moving to the vendor world.
