I'll keep this short: they had Mike Manos, they had Dr. Bob Sullivan and in the ongoing series of interviewing some of the data center world's most influential minds, TechTarget adds another big name to the list. This time, it is Christian Belady. If you are like I am and bad at remembering names, mr. Belady is the man responsible for introducing PUE. He earns his bread as the director of hardware architecture at Microsoft's eXtreme Computing Group.

One part he said struck a cord with me, because it is so true for many touchy aspects of life. The background is that Belady once placed a rack of servers in a tent outside (no cooling), and observed what happened. On the question what that proved to him, he says: "I did that experiment in the tent, running servers, because of something I learned from negotiating with my wife. If I want to come to
an agreement with her, I have to go to an extreme and come to a
compromise which was where I wanted to be in the first place. The point
is the experiment was the extreme, but in the end we I was shooting for
the compromise."

Anyway: happy reading
