We maybe take electrical power supply to the data center for granted but the power transmission networks can be a bottle neck (a.k.a. Critical Areas for Transmission Congestion). But apart from studies in the U.S. are their other studies available for other parts of the world?…

Hi all,
Here's a tip I thought I'd share with you about how you might improve any blog post by adding your photos as a slideshow directly into your article.
You can easily create an album of your photos (drawings) and include the 'embed' code in your blog post. If you need to do this in future just follow these steps:
1. Go to photos (
http://www.datacenterprofessionals.net/photo)
2. Go to…

I have a hobby. I like astronomy. I have a little telescope that I use to check comets, moons and planets. I am also a data center professional, movie fan and amateur writer. Recently, those seemingly disparate interests converged into a kind of “out there” idea.
You may have heard of the new movie “2012”; where the world comes to an end? I was thinking about that movie, solar astronomy and data centers the other day and was able to connect the dots. I wrote an article on the subject and…

We've added a member map to the site. Thought it could be useful to see (at a glance) where everyone is. It may end up being more fun to use than the
Advanced Search feature.
Note that the map does not take your location details from your profile info by default - instead its up to you whether you choose to add yourself to the map or not. But its easy to add your location and some text about yourself. The …

I've added some pictures and a power point on how you raise your fire protection level to inside the cabinet or enclosure level. Anything that is mission-critical, such as processes, equipment, remote locations, that is inside a cabinet or enclosure can now have automatic fire detection and suppression inside of it. No power required, can be interfaced with existing equipment, alarm systems and auxiliary controls, and it is very cost-effective!

The Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE) is developing a Critical Facilities Council with intentions to develop training and certification programs directed toward critical facilities and data center infrastructure technicians. We feel there are sufficient programs with DCJ, AFCOM, IFMA, Uptime and others that do well at educating and equipping designers and site managers but those programs may be too material oriented for the technician level. We want to develop basic training for…

Knowing when to install a generator into your data center is an important question IT Managers must ask prior to actually building their data center.
With careful planning there are strategies you can implement during the design phase of your data center build that can minimize downtime and effectively deal with unforeseen power outages.
Your data center is the lifeblood of your company. In fact, as we move forward in time, it is my contention that each computer in the…
